Vertical Garden--CaixaForum Madrid

The CaixaForum is located in the heart of Marid, joining together with the city´s golden triangle El Prado, Musep Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia and Thyssen´Bornemisya Museum.

The museum is housed in a converted power station, a significant industrial architecture since 1899. The classified brick walls of the former power station are reminiscences of the early industrial age in Madrid. But it has been transformed by Swiss Architects Herzog & de Meuron as a new cultural center in Madrid.

The CaxiaForum project has been shown in brief on landscape and urbanism. It is using two complementary materials, red rusted metal panels and green vegetated panels, juxtaposed together as an amazing composition. The 24-meter high vertical garden, designed in collaboration with french botanist Patrick Blanc, who has designed many in the world.

The vertical garden can grow plants without any soil. It undermines traditional thought of what the garden should be. Now when we look a the garden. We should say “Look UP the garden!”
